Subject: Please deny Pint Size Lounge noise exception!
To: <[email protected]>
This is regarding File No: PLAN25-058
I live within one block of Adam Violante’s Pint Size Lounge, and the proposed “West End Block Party”, and I am begging you not to grant this event a noise exception! We have a noise ordinance in the West End for good reasons.
• This isn’t a one-time event needing an exception. It’s a single person profiting by using our neighborhood as an outdoor concert venue week after week. He wants to play different rules than the rest of us, when those rules are there for the benefit of the community.
• The outdoor block party can happen without blasting music so loud that it can be heard inside the homes of everyone nearby, even with all of our doors and windows shut.
• If Mr. Violante wants to host live bands why not do it indoors like a normal bar, not outside at his neighbors’ expense?
• The oft-cited “survey” that claimed to show around 800 neighbors supported the event was completely invalid. The fatal flaw: Anyone with the link could respond, and there was no way to check that only local residents responded. 800 people don’t even live in the radius that the survey was supposed to poll! The survey was shared in social media with Violante’s followers; people from across Marin who ballot stuffed it and drowned out the very voices that survey had claimed to be for.
• If residents of other neighborhoods or towns enjoy this event, let them host it instead! Sun Valley and Gerstle Park have plenty of streets that could be shut down without impacting traffic.
• Or, keep the event loud and move it east to between C St and Lincoln Ave. That strip of Fourth St is much louder, less residential, and had hosted loud events for decades; unlike the West End where it was only done as a pandemic exception.
If San Rafael is serious about making and keeping the West End a vibrant and attractive place to live, it will respect the needs of the people who actually live here.
Thank you,
Jessa
