To: Distrib- City Clerk <[email protected]> Subject: Closure of the Intersection of Marquard Avenue and Second Street:
San Rafael City Council and Mayor:
I am an owner of my property on Marquard Avenue for the past 49 years and I am in complete opposition to the City wanting to close the Marquard Avenue /Second Street Intersection.
That intersection provides needed access for the complete Hillside community of Families, Individuals and Seniors who need this access for Emergency Vehicles to respond when emergencies arrive and they always do.
If the intersection is closed the Emergency response time will be greatly affected and the speed bump installed at the closure will create more problems and Liability for the City of San Rafael because of the unsafe situation that will take place with this terrible project.
The City should be trying to work with neighborhoods instead of ramrodding terrible projects down their throats.
We all know the Bike Coalition is a big part of this project in making things safe for them but in the process you are making things more unsafe for the Marquard and Hillside residents.
Bicyclists are some of the worst offenders of stop signs and people's safety while they are riding along streets at fast speeds to try and beat traffic.
I know this because I am a Bicyclist and I see people on Bikes running stop signs and causing safety problems wherever I ride.
Bicycling is a great exercise but when Bikes are ridden at fast speeds with unsafe operator's they are as deadly as a vehicle in what unsafe situations they can cause.
In trying to close the Marquard Avenue / Second Street intersection you are making travel less safe in my eyes and all my neighbors on Marquard Avenue and the Hillside above. We need this intersection to stay open because it was designed years ago for the purpose of safe access for all.
