Hello,
Thank you for including email comments regarding the subject of the 17 story building appeal.
SAFETY:
My main worry for the City of San Rafael is the ability to evacuate in the event of a fire.
Traffic is already challenged across town to the point that it can take 30 minutes or more to get from say, Ace Hardware on 4th Street, to the freeway if you attempt it post 3:00 p.m.
All towns west of San Rafael would be evacuating through San Rafael or out Sir Francis Drake which would create such a dangerous bottle-neck as it is, let alone what will happen with the impact of such a large structure.
CHANGING THE CITY WITH NO GOING BACK:
Reality is that once one 17 story building is approved, others will follow and soon Marin county will have the look and feel of a major city but without the infrastructure to support the sudden impact this type of building represents.
Thank you for all of your efforts. I know you are caught in a tough place with multiple points of view, but I really do worry about Marin if we move forward with this 17-story structure in and of itself; and what it potentially sets as a new standard for future projects.
Best,
Linda
