To: Distrib- City Clerk <[email protected]> Subject: Urgent Action Required on Anderson St. Unsanctioned Encampment San Rafael City Council,
What immediate actions is the city taking to remove the unsanctioned encampment on Anderson St., or will you wait for another homicide to occur in the heart of San Rafael before making that decision?
The community is and has been outraged that this unsanctioned encampment still exists next to a middle school, elementary school, daycare, park, and downtown. It is unacceptable and ascinine to justify its location on a major artery of San Rafael. Gerstle Park, Lincoln Hill, surrounding businesses, and students bear the brunt of this neglect daily.
Despite hopes for improvement, we are witnessing a troubling rise in transients and homelessness. Once again our streets are littered with trash, there are incidents of open drug use and dealing, with individuals passed out on sidewalks and sleeping in bushes and theft.
San Rafael residents deserve safe, clean streets and responsible leadership that prioritizes the wellbeing of families, students, and local businesses. The current situation on Anderson St. is not sustainable, and continuing to delay action only deepens the impact on our neighborhoods. We urge the City Council to act immediately to remove the encampment and implement solutions that protect both the community and those in need of appropriate services. Our schools, parks, and downtown should not be defined by inaction. The time for decisive leadership is now.
