SUBJECT: REAPPOINT STAN BURFORD TO FILL ONE FOUR-YEAR TERM TO THE END OF APRIL 2030 ON THE FIRE COMMISSION
RECOMMENDATION:
Reappoint Stan Burford to Fill One Four-Year Term on the Fire Commission to the End of April 2030.
BACKGROUND:
The first term of Stan Burford is set to expire at the end of April 2026. The City Clerk’s office recruits year-round for boards and commissions, and initiated recruitments in 2026 for the Fire Commission. One (1) application was received, and staff recommends the reappointment of Stan Burford to the end of October 2030.
The Fire Commission contributes its experience and expertise to support the goals of the San Rafael Fire Department. In concert with the Fire Chief, the five members and two alternates collaborate on department-related initiatives, supporting the San Rafael Fire Foundation. In the past, commissioners have also participated in public education and outreach activities, supported emergency preparedness efforts, and documented the Department's history. The activities of the Commission are varied based on the unique skills and perspectives of the individual members.
The Fire Commission adheres to its bylaws, and meetings are held monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
The call for applications was advertised through mass email notification, the City website, social media platforms, and physically posted at City facilities.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Reappoint Stan Burford to Fill One Four-Year Term on the Fire Commission to the End of April 2030.
