Mayor Kate Colin and Members of the City Council,
I write to you about the Starkweather Path/Bay Trail Lighting project that I expect you to support.
My interest in this project stems from my ongoing concern for the safety of the community who use the pathway. By background, I am a Physical Therapist with a career spent in geriatrics. Older adults need safe spaces for exercise and socialization for good health and longevity. As a volunteer, I advocate for older adults and people with disabilities from my seat as chair of Age and Disability Friendly Novato. As a member of the Marin Organizing Committee we speak up when we find policies that perpetuate inequities at the local level.
Women, children, older adults and people with disabilities including those with low vision deserve to have access to a safe environment, whether walking or using wheelchairs, strollers, or other assistive devices. To be fully ADA accessible, the path requires adequate lighting that meets environmental standards and protects wildlife.
Thank you for considering my comments.
