For me and all the residents of the Canal area, lighting along the path is very important, since many families use the path for exercising, spending time with family, or simply walking and relaxing. We have worked hard on other lighting and safety projects in the past, and the change has been evident in our city, especially in the Canal area. Now we are advocating for lighting on the Stakweather Path. I would like to request lighting for the path because a large portion of the route remains dark during the evening and night hours, and this raises safety concerns for Canal residents who use these spaces, as the lack of lighting affects families, seniors who need to exercise, residents who rely on the path, and especially children who walk or ride their bikes. The darkness limits its use and creates fear of theft, harassment, and accidents.

Por favor les suplicamos que nos apoyen con la iluminación en el sendero, lamentablemente hace dos semanas fue atacada una de mis familiares por un muchacho encapuchado que intentó violarla. Es algo muy triste para nosotros, aunque se han hecho el reporte con la policía nuestra familiar quedó traumada, con mucho miedo está haciendo muy difícil superar esta situación. Quiero compartir un poco sobre lo que este grupo abogo en el pasado abogo para que se pusieran mas iluminación en las calles del canal y ayudara a disminuir los robos y la delincuencia en el área del canal y eso fue aprobado y hoy nuevamente queremos pedir el apoya ala ciudad para que se lleve acabo las luces en el sendero para que las familias puedan salir a pasear y distraerse un poco de muchas preocupaciones que estamos enfrentando en estos momentos como lo que esta pasando con migración y con medical y rentas elevadas muchos tienen temor de salir a caminar porque no se sienten seguros porque es demasiado oscuro y tienen ese temor de salir con sus hijos gracias y buenas noches Translation:

I want to share a little about what this group has advocated for in the past—we advocated for more streetlights along the Canal to help reduce theft and crime in the Canal area, and that was approved. Today, we’d like to ask the city for support again to install lights along the trail so families can go out for a walk and take their minds off some of the many concerns we’re facing right now, such as what’s happening with immigration, healthcare, and high rents. Yo soy miembro del grupo Voces del Canal.
Les comparto que Voces del Canal en Colaboración con alumnas y profesoras de la universidad Dominicana, trabajamos en el Proyecto que llevó por nombre la Belleza del Canal nesecita luz para brillar.
El proyecto inició Sep, 2021, donde se identificaron 7 rutas que nesecitaban más iluminación. La número SIETE fue Bay Shoreline Path. Nuestra comunidad aportó su opinión, y en Febrero, del 2022, se hizo una Feria Comunitaria para presentar el proyecto y opiniones, así también Nuestro grupo y los profesores lo presentamos a la Ciudad de San Rafael, el 20 de Abril del 2022, la Ciudad apoyo con iluminación en las 6 rutas del Canal, y les agradecemos su colaboración y total Apoyo, que fue de gran beneficio a nuestra comunidad. Este proyecto culminó en mayo del 2022. Pero faltó la iluminación de Bay Shoreline Path.
Nosotros la comunidad nos gusta salir a caminar alrededor de ese sendero para respirar aire puro, hacer ejercicios, andar en bicicleta, caminar con nuestras mascotas.
Pero la falta de iluminación nos crea inseguridad especialmente en el invierno donde los días son más cortos.
Los peatones y ciclistas no tienen acceso de orientación en el camino.
Por qué es muy oscuro.
Les pedimos que por favor escuchen nuestra petición para que ese camino este iluminado.

I am a member of the group Voces del Canal.
I’d like to share that Voces del Canal, in collaboration with students and professors from the Dominican University, worked on a project titled “The Beauty of the Canal Needs Light to Shine.”
The project began in September 2021, when we identified seven routes that needed better lighting. Number seven was the Bay Shoreline Path. Our community shared its input, and in February 2022, a Community Fair was held to present the project and gather feedback. Our group and the professors also presented it to the City of San Rafael on April 20, 2022. The City provided lighting for the six Canal routes, and we thank them for their collaboration and full support, which greatly benefited our community. This project was completed in May 2022.
However, lighting is still missing on the Bay Shoreline Path.
We, the community, enjoy going out for walks along that path to breathe fresh air, exercise, ride bicycles, and walk our pets.
But the lack of lighting makes us feel unsafe, especially in the winter when the days are shorter.
Pedestrians and cyclists have no way to navigate the path.
Because it is very dark.
We ask that you please consider our request to have that path illuminated.
