Honorable Mayor Kate Colin and City Council members
City of San Rafael
1400 Fifth Ave
San Rafael, CA 94901 via email: [email protected] RE: San Rafael City Council 7/20/26 meeting, November 2026 Ballot Measure: Real Property Transfer Tax Rate
The purpose of this email is to request City Council members to request staff to:
(1) Do more thorough statistically correct research. Comparing the city of San Rafael to Santa Monica or larger cities in the East Bay is not a statistically correct analysis. In addition, I suspect that those cities have much more investment rental properties instead of individual homeowners who would be bearing the brunt of this increase. (2) Find alternatives to increase revenue instead of increasing San Rafael’s Documentary Transfer Tax which is already the highest in Marin County! (3) Find ways to minimize wasteful spending. Clearly you could save the significant cost that is incurred by including this in the November ballot measure.

Lastly, I have read and concur with Victoria DeWitt’s letter to you on this same topic.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Grace Geraghty
36-year resident of Terra Linda
