Comments for the Public Meeting
From Maryellen Mullin Fong
Date Mon 10/5/2026 7:11 PM
To Distrib City Clerk < [email protected]> Dear City Clerk,
Please record these comments for the written record of tonight's City Council public meeting, I was unable to have my comment heard online during the meeting:
Regarding 350 Merrydale Project: We expect the City to develop an affordable housing project that is compatible with the neighborhood. That means we do not want a development that is any more than 3-stories tall and 80 units.
Just since late-August, the City has received four development proposals for housing, all of which will have some affordable houses and some will be almost exclusively affordable housing. So, the City does not have to stack & pack 350 Merrydale. It is clear that there will be other affordable housing projects developed throughout the City. 350 Merrydale should not be viewed as the only solution to affordable housing. The City can and should develop a project that meets its 80 unit requirement and keeps the development compatible with the neighborhood. We can live with that. We will not tolerate a five or six story development with over 100 units. The Eden Housing proposal is too excessive and it must be scaled way back.
Respectfully,
Maryellen P. Mullin Fong
