Andonceyousignthenewcontract, theycanburythenewplanjustliketheyburiedthelastone.
Anycitythatisnotexploringotheroptionswill endupbeingatthecounty’smercyandwill beforcedtosignanotherbad contract.

Onlyoneconsultantresponded — CitygateAssociates, acompanythatprovidesservicesacrossvariouslocalgovernment functionsincludingpolice, fireandEMS, communitydevelopmentandadministrativeservices. Thegrouplistsanimalcareas oneofits15servicesofferedtolocalgovernments.
CountyspokespersonMollyNichelsonstatedinaFridayafternoonemailthatthecontractiscurrentlybeingfinalizedandwill notrequireapprovalfromtheBoardofSupervisorsaslongasthetotalamountislessthan $200,000.
Criticsspentyearscallingforamoreopenshelter, arguingthattheshelter’sappointment-basedsystemwasdecreasingthe numberofadoptionswhilealsoincreasingkill rates.
