MayorandCouncilmembers,
My nameisMayraRuiz, Presidentof GreaterSouthernCaliforniaTowing, alifelongSantaAnaresident, anda motherraisingmychildrenhere. I amwritingto opposeItem15 – ThirdAmendmentforRotationalTowing andStorageServicesontonight’sagenda.
Thisamendmentwouldallowrotationaltowingcompaniesto storeandreleasevehiclesoutsideof SantaAna citylimits. Whilethismayseemlikeasmallchange, it createsarealburdenonresidents:
Familieswill haveto travelfartherto retrievetheircars.
Residentswill losetime, faceaddedexpenses, anddealwithgreaterinconvenience.
Oversightandaccountabilitybecomeweakerwhenstorageisoutsideourcity.
CompaniesthatinvestedinSantaAnafacilitiesareplacedatadisadvantagecomparedto thosewho chosenotto.
Earlierthisyear, I objectedinwritingto thisamendmentbecauseit harmsSantaAnaresidentsandundermines fairness. Whentheextensionandamendmentwerelaterseparated, I declinedtheoutsideyardamendmentand signedonlythecleanone-yearextension. I stoodforSantaAnafamilies, eventhoughthreeothercompanies supportedtheamendment.
Now, it feelslikeI ambeingpunishedfor doingtherightthingfor refusingto passcostsandinconvenience ontoresidents.
I urgeyouto rejectItem15. If acaristowedinSantaAna, it shouldbestoredandreleasedinSantaAna.
Residentsshouldnotcarrytheburdensocompaniescanoperatemoreconveniently.
Thankyoufor protectingSantaAnafamiliesandfairness.
