Yesterday afternoon Stadium engineers and security personnel discovered that a main 4” recycled water line ruptured underground beneath the concrete structural slab inside the Stadium. The damage resulted in the failure of the irrigation system that provides water to the Stadium field.
In order to prevent damage to the field, the repair work must commence immediately. The cost of replacing the entire field would be in the range of $350,000 to $385,000.
In the past, the City has offered to provide contractors to perform emergency repairs at the Stadium. Assuming that offer still stands, we would be happy to engage your contractors to perform this work. The scope of this work would be appropriate for a General Contractor familiar with sub slab pipe replacement.
Here is a brief write up of the scope of work:
-
Isolate the damaged section of pipe and identify the limits of pipe to be replaced and abandoned to fully restore operation of the pipe.
- Remove and/or abandon the existing pipe. It is expected that demolition work will require the contractor to expose the damaged pipe by means of saw cut, excavation and core drill. Contractor shall x-ray all concrete slab and wall surfaces prior to any demolition and excavation activities.
-
Install and connect a new 4-inch diameter welded and flanged stainless steel pipe. - Backfill and restore all disturbed areas to match existing. - Test pipe and connections.
- Ensure all work is in compliance with local and state building code requirements. - Test and verify working condition of existing 4-inch Press Reducing Valve (PRV) and associated components on the field side of the damaged pipe. Replace or repair equipment, if necessary.
-
Obtain all applicable permits, if necessary.
- Coordinate access and all hot work with 49ers Engineering Department prior to commencement of work.
- Provide as-built and other project contract documents upon completion of project. - Additionally, alternate means and methods will be reviewed and approved on a case by case basis.
Alternatively, if you prefer not to provide City contractors for this work, we will hire a General Contractor to perform the repair on an emergency basis in accordance with the Stadium Lease.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed. Happy to discuss live if you prefer.
Thanks,
JIM
