STAFF REPORT
4 22-813 Report on Library Staffing
Recommendation: No recommendation on this item
Assistant City Librarian Goyal provided an overview of As-Needed Library staff classifications and roles in overall Library operations. Staff duties for As-Needed Library Page, Assistant, Librarian, and Associate and Regular Consultants were defined and Goyal described the distribution of staff by library units. Goyal shared current recruitments for Literacy Technology Assistant, Library Technology Consultant, Library Assistant, and Library Page and the plan to hire more staff to expand hours in Fall 2022. City Librarian Wong and Assistant City Librarian Goyal provided a comparison of pre-pandemic staffing levels with current staffing levels, and discussed overall system impact to Library operating hours.

After the COVID shutdown, the Library had less than half of their prior staff including as-needed staff which are critical to overall Library operations.

The Library reopened with a four-hour schedule to complement existing staff levels, and hours were adjusted in 2022 to better fit the needs of the school-age community. As staffing increases, the goal remains to increase hours to full 8 hour days during the week and add Sunday hours where Central Park Library is open for 7 days a week, Northside Library is open 6 days a week, and Mission Library is open 5 days a week.
