It is clear we are in the political season. It is true that accusations are flying. I see them every day in the mail. Tonight, I've heard 3 Councilmembers accuse the Mayor of lying and/or bullying.
I STRONGLY support an independent Commission, names drawn from a hat of those that applied. The alternative, having a committee stacked with those named on the Grand Jury Report, is keeping the politics IN. An independent commission takes the politics OUT.
I also believe there are few on the dias that understand the processes of a Grand Jury. They are an investigative branch, not a trial. Perhaps that is ALSO something the independent Commission can explain. Until then, there are all sorts of misunderstandings happening. Having the DA investigate WILL end up with an opportunity for named folks to tell there side of the story.
Bottom line, the way to keep politics OUT is for an independent ethics commission.
