I support the city building a park instead of the high density housing. We need to keep Santa Clara safe and clean and not fear what our future generation will deal with and the unknowing of the types of individuals that will move into our quiet-kept community.

The Mansion would make a beautiful Community Center. It's hard to tell from the outside but one imagines adequate space inside for folk, country, ballroom, or line dancing. Money might be made by renting some space as a wedding or other venue, but a portion of the interior and exterior space should be made available to public groups and non profits for free or appropriately affordable rental amounts. One also is reminded of Mountain View's Rengstorff House near Shoreline Lake, on the Bay.

Our community needs a park since we have to walk 10 minutes to the closest Fremont park across El Camino Real to walk and enjoy nature. Considering new Warburton Avenue townhomes, which will become available in late fall, we'll have an increasing demand in public areas, children's playgrounds, and sports corners. The neighborhood is already well-packed, and another high-density building will make a huge negative impact on residents regardless of whether it is affordable housing project or not.

There have been no new parks in the last 30 years relative to the amount of growth that we have incurred in our area. PLEASE support the development of this park and beautify our neighborhood rather than cram more people into it!

I strongly support building a park. Currently, a lot of residents drive down to other cities such as Sunnyvale and Mountain view to use parks for our kids. We need this park so the community can come together to use the park resources for learning, exercising, and address numerous community building incentives. If we keep building housing without parks, our city will be less attractive to future family residents and act as a catalyst for families to move to better planned cities.

I support for a new park! The population in the neighborhood has grown rapidly in the past ten years but we don't have enough amenities to accommodate this population growth! A new park will greatly help us to unite with our family and neighbors.

Born & raised 40 yr resident I have seen housing in the Civic Center area grow since the 80s w/ no new parks or amenities added to balance these developments. Future growth from the El Camino Real Corridor & potential high density housing in the area will exacerbate the issue. Focusing on long term community growth this is our chance to utilize this space to serve as a Community Hub given lack of parks for current 1.2 acres per 1,000 residents vs City’s current park standard is 2.6 - 3.0 acres Chuang Qian

Request to build a park, instead of the high density apartment. The neighborhood designated Scott Lane Elementary is rated as “below average” for both academic test scores and equity. The school has about 77% of low income students. The apartment will add 30
students or increase 7.4% enrollment to the school being all low-income - bringing the school to have almost 85% low income students.

This will drive away existing and potential middle/high income family away, deteriorating the local economy Vasily Igishev

I strongly support a neighborhood park at 1601 Civic Center. Our neighborhood already has overly dense housing without adequate green areas for young families. My family and I tried to visit Civic Center Park several times to find homeless people living on the sidewalk of Housing Community Services and other individuals smoking on the benches. Not to mention the close proximity to a highly transited street such as El Camino Real makes it not a viable place for kids to be running.

I believe that city parks are important public infrastructures that can unitet us as Santa Clara city residents. It creates a public space for residents to take a rest and spend time with their families (kids, parents, etc), friends and neighbors. With good amentities, it could also attract people who loves sport and / or natural views.

Strongly support the idea to bring a new park to the neighborhood. It will benefit not only residents, seniors, and children who have been living here for a while, but also be great for young couples who recently moved to this area where they settle down and start to build families. In our community, there are already 5 newborns this year and there's going to be more for sure in near future. We residents of this area are in need of more parks for children to play safely and healthily grow up.

The Warburton area is a prime location to place a park that could accommodate seniors and residents in the area. Within the Walberton/Civic Center neighborhood, they were mini multi unit apartments that has low income children. Having a local park will allow children to learn and play and senior citizens to meet and socialize in an environment that is close to their residence. A mixed used park would provide a positive influence on not only the neighborhood but the environment.

We need a green park with playground for kids, need a lawns and trees for picnics and walking. We have only roads and industrial areas, but we don’t have a good park. It’s so heavy to get places with green nature in Santa Clara. Please help us to improve our neighborhood.

City has been approving housing projects left & right in this neighborhood for over a decade but have ignored things like how to make communities stronger, where children are going to play etc. E.g. Existing rotary park does NOT even meet the needs of immediate apartment buildings. Park here will be beneficial to everyone, it will provide much needed open space, community development opportunities, play area etc. City should provide right mix of housing & open space to have healthy communities.

There has been tremendous increase in housing and population in the neighborhood, but the city has not increased any parks or public space in at least 20 years here. This is a perfect use of this spot, will massively increase quality of life in the neighborhood and is what is demanded by residents rather than a housing project that poorly addresses the needs of the residents and does not fit this specific location.

Great idea to build a new park in this neighborhood. I have lived here and known numerous residents who would actually benefit from this. Think about the positive impact that the park will bring to peoples life, to attractiveness of the city, to sustainable future of the area. Strongly support the idea to build the park. Thank you.

I highly support that we should create a space for community members to congregate safely. There are more and more child born in this community. A safety place to play is critical for child development. And a park help build healthy and stable community. If we could build a park at 1601 civic center, it means a lot to this community.

I support a park proposal.

It will add a great value for the whole community and provide the recreational space with many kinds of activities for all residents. We really need such green space here.

The park will contribute to the community life way better than high-density residential development on 1601 Civic Center Drive for which there is at least not enough infrastructure for drastically increasing traffic and such amount of cars that would be parking in the streets.

Useful green space is always lacking in our increasingly high-density urban environment. After learning that the new Community Garden facility at Eddie Souza Park (at Monroe/San Tomas) has a very narrow requirement for access, limited to residents within 0.5 miles of the park, it's clear that a similar-style project here to serve our community would be a welcome addition to the area. Please give this proposal due consideration. QoL for existing Santa Clara residents' QoL is important!

I've been a resident of Santa Clara for over 10 years and am in favor of a safe, walk-able community park that our families can access and enjoy. 1601 Civic Center Drive is a prime area to have a park serving the future needs of green spaces and community gathering as nearby commercial and city hall are planned for high-density residential in Santa Clara’s General Plan. Based on the city’s current park standard we are already well under the Santa Clara park acreage target.

There are quite a lot of townhouses and condos without backyard in the area, and a community garden will improve life of current residents. Building high density housing without enough parking will make life of residents miserable and dangerous due to increased number of cars parking on the streets. I support this proposal.

I also support 2-3 story SFH development. They would be more expensive, but the city could offer more units to lower income families.

Reduced taxes, low to no interest mortgages to original owners for a fixed period, and when on sale these units would revert to normal
market expenses. The city and developers would realize their tax/profits basis over an extended period.

A park would be a much better option than the currently planned very high- density high-rise that does not have a park or adequate parking. If the City is not willing to build a park, perhaps consider lowering the current plan’s density so the impact is not as bad to existing neighbors? Perhaps build a senior housing instead so parking demand is less and also less density? I urge the Council to seriously consider the park option, or an adjustment to the current development plan.

In recent years, many lots in the neighborhood that used to accommodate small businesses were converted into residential areas, where examples include Catalina and the new development at 1790-1792 Warburton Avenue.

However, this was not accompanied by addition of facilities for the residents. I support the proposal to establish a city park at 1601 Civic Center Drive because I think that a facility that offers recreational and educational activities to the community is much needed.

Community park is one of the only options for residents to enjoy nature and be active. In addition to the variety of amenities, community playgrounds and parks are beneficial in many other ways:
1) Contribute to community identity

This may be our last chance to have a new neighborhood park, and 1601 is the only available parcel in our neighborhood suitable for a park, and contiguous with other City properties. Our Civic Center should be a show case for future generations to come, not a block of dense housing. We also suggest that the City may propose leasing the building for some time until additional sources of funding materialize. We have made a Commitment to stay engaged and help our City through this challenge.

If the Council can't talk about Council Members receiving gifts from the 49ers, which is illegal, then why would the Council talk about a perfectly legal and appropriate letter to Governor Newsom? As for the other issue, would "leaking confidential information" be hearsay? So far the public has heard only innuendo from sources proven in the past to be unreliable, with no hard facts, unlike the 49er gifts which included upper tier NFL seats, being seen at a game, and written firsthand statements.
