WRITTEN REQUEST
I, Suds Jain, hereby request that the following item be placed on the City of Santa Clara Council and Authorities Concurrent meeting agenda:

On June 24, 2022, I submitted a 030 for the Council to consider ballot measure to change the Chief of Police and City Clerk positions from elected to appointed. On August 30, 2022 the City Council voted to place this item on a future Council agenda for action.

On June 6, 2023, Council held a study session to discuss possible actions including creating a Charter Review Committee.

At the June 6'h, 2023 Council meeting, the council took specific actions and gave direction to staff.

First, we voted that the City Council may take actions during the Study session.

Staff had a presentation with questions and options for Council direction as well as a schedule of deadlines to meet the March 5th, 2024 election.

Council voted to establish a Charter Review Committee (CRC) that would look at possible charter amendments for both Police Chief and City Clerk on the March 5', 2024 ballot. Council also voted that each Councilmember would appoint one resident from their district to a 7 member CRC with the Mayor appointing an at-large member.

Given that the Council has already directed staff to proceed with forming and supporting a CRC, I'm now asking that we place on a future agenda an action item to establish a budget for support of public meetings, outreach, support for the CRC, City webpages, and the cost of placing measures on the ballot.
