Re: Palm Tree Inspection.
Dear Dr. Patrick,
Thank you for the opportunity to become involved in your tree related issue. Pursuant to my visit to your office and inspection of what remains of 1 California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera), I report as follows.
The tree has been topped by persons unknown to this consultant. This topping has involved the complete removal of the central bud (meristematic bud) of the tree, leaving a large wound at the top of the remaining trunk, which stand approximately 20 feet tall.
This bud is where all palm growth arises from, and without it, all further growth is arrested. No possibility of re-growing this bud is possible, removal will always kill the plant.
As such, all vascular activity in your tree has halted, it is beginning to desiccate, and agents of degredation (insects and fungi) are beginning to attack what remains. Your Palm, as a direct result of having been topped is now bereft of life, and will become dangerous with time.
In the interest of safety and landscape hygene, it should be removed at an early convenience.
If you have further questions, please call this office. lar Geddes, ONDH(Arb), MloD
