Draft Commendation
City of SantaClara
WHEREAS, the Portuguese community has deep roots in Santa Clara, with many people immigrating from Portugal to the area beginning in the 1880s and again in the 1950s and 1960s; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clara is fortunate to have many residents of Portuguese descent who continue to celebrate their heritage and give back to the community; and
WHEREAS, having formed the S.E.S. Portuguese Hall in 1896, immigrants from Portugal created a place to build community and foster good works; and
WHEREAS, Nossa Senhora de Fatima is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization related to S.E.S.
Portuguese Hall, which conducts annual community service activities in the City of Santa Clara; its community service activities include programs aimed at aiding the less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1953, 2023 marks the 70
th anniversary of the Nossa Senhora de Fatima
organization.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LISA M. GILLMOR, by virtue of the authority vested i n me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby recognize and congratulate
Nossa Senhora de Fatima in Santa Clara
On its 70th anniversary and commend the organization for its service to the City of Santa Clara.
