Subject: Against bringing againthe Resolution for Ceasefire in-disguise 23‐1474 ‐ DRAFT Resolution in Support of United Against Hate Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I resent the dishonest way of bringing back the resolution for a one-sided ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war (Item No 5), which is a direct support in disguise of Hamas' cause to eliminate Israel, the only Jewish state in the world.

Putting this topic on the agenda without mentioning the topic is deceitful and should be rejected by city officials.

As emphasized during the Council meeting last week, the City Council’s mission is to deal with t opics that concern the city and NOT foreign affairs.

Sincerely,

Subject: Cease fire resolution
Honorable Mayor and Members of City council of Santa Clara,

We have just learned that the council will consider a cease fire resolution brought up by CAIR.

We have resided in Santa Clara for the past 40 years. My parents who were Holocaust survivors and recently passed away were also Santa Clara residents.

Recently, the San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been urging residents across the Bay Area, including Santa Clara, to attend city council meetings. Their aim is to advocate for the inclusion of a ceasefire resolution in solidarity with the Palestinian people without denouncing the atrocities of Hamas - raping young girls and women, beheading and burning alive men, women and children, taking hostages and abusing and killing them in captivity - and its role as a terrorist organization. The White House has disavowed CAIR after its national executive director, Nihad Awad, expressed support for the murderous terrorist actions by Hamas in Israel.

In addition, although less terrifying and offensive than supporting terrorists, meeting after meeting being disrupted is preventing the council from doing its job. Our city council meetings are intended to focus on issues directly impacting our community – infrastructure, public safety, local economy, and community welfare. When meetings are consistently redirected towards international conflicts, we can’t address these pressing local needs.

Subject: Dec. 12th meeti
Esteemed members of the Santa Clara City Council and fellow residents, My name is Joan Goldner-Lasofsky and I live in Palo Alto. I want to take the time to remind us all of the primary role of our city council. Our meetings have recently been overshadowed by debates and discussions on global conflicts, particularly the Israeli/Palestinian one. There is now a motion on the agenda to “address the concerns of our constituents on Dec. 12”, specifically speaking to the Israel:Hamas war.

These are not the core responsibilities of our local government.

Our city council should focus on the real and pressing issues that directly impact our daily lives here in Santa Clara. This includes managing our infrastructure, overseeing city activities, enhancing recreational opportunities, and ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all our residents. These are the areas where our focus, resources, and energies should be directed.

Our city council meetings should be a platform for addressing local civic issues, for making decisions that improve the quality of life for all Santa Clarans.

I call on the council to reject this resolution, and redirect our attention back to the core functions of our city government. Let's work together to ensure that Santa Clara continues to thrive as a city that not only stands against hate but also proactively works towards the betterment of its citizens in tangible, everyday ways.

Thank you for your time and for your commitment to our city.” Sincerely,
Joan Goldner-Lasofsky

Subject: Discussion around Israel and Gaza

Esteemed members of the Santa Clara City Council and fellow residents, My name is Alex Solmonovich, I stand before you today with a concern that impacts the essence of our community’s functionality and harmony. Once again we are seeing an organized effort by CAIR to ‘pack this council meeting for Palestine,’ which poses a challenge to the conduct of our city’s essential business.

This aggressive hijacking of council business, involving bussing in hundreds to prolong meetings and shift focus from local issues, not only disrupt our civic process but also deepen community divisions. The approach, particularly targeting the much smaller Jewish population, raises questions about the intent and outcome of such actions.

What end does it serve to hinder the council’s ability to address the needs of all Santa Clarans?
Our city council meetings should be a forum for constructive dialogue and decision- making on local matters – infrastructure , public safety, and community welfare.

Stop this madness. Last week a man waited 2 hours to ask about getting a swimming pool fixed. THAT is city business. Let us focus on real, fixable issues that serve the needs of every member of our community.

Thank you for your attention and commitment to maintaining the integrity of our civic processes.

Subject: Keep Santa Clara safe for Jewish people please Dear Mayor and City Council,

I’m writing to you as a concerned citizen and a worried mom. I’ve been living in the area for more then 20 years and what I love about it is that it’s diverse and safe usually and right now it doesn’t feel like that, I don’t feel safe and I’m
worried about my kids future in this area, that happens when cities around me vote for one sided resolutions against Israel and ceasefire in Gaza.

All these resolutions bring up divisions and hate towards Jewish and Israeli  people that live in this area ( and other

places). We are still mourning the loss of family members on October 7 and praying for the return of those who are still in captivity! On top of dealing with our lives here.

There was a ceasefire and Hamas broke it, they vow to continue what they did on October 7!
So calling for ceasefire will not do anything but it would bring people to think that Israel can control that and hate Israelis and Jewish for that.

Please keep the hate and division out of Santa Clara city, I’m sure there are a lot of subjects on your agenda to deal with that are related to the city, here and now.

The city of Santa Clara is a great city, keep it this way for all citizens and do not get involved in a conflict abroad.

Subject: No more resolutions.

Dear Council,
I was extremely sorry to see that Vice Mayor Park requested to place an agenda item to consider a resolution on the conflict in the middle east. This is adding to a wave of anti-Israeli and antisemitic sentiment in our area.

I would like to remind the council that there was a ceasefire up until Oct 6. The reason there is war today is because Hamas horrific massacre that included killing of babies and rape of women. Hamas kidnapped innocent civilians, including a 10-month old baby, 135 of them are still hostage in Gaza with no visits from the Red Cross. Among the hostages are US citizens.

A call for a ceasefire, with no mention of the Oct 7 massacre, is equivalent to letting Hamas have the right to attack again and leave the hostages to die in Gaza. Hamas convent calls explicitly for removing all Jews from Israel, so stopping now will just give Hamas the legitimacy to do so. Here are quotes from Hamas convent:
"Palestine is an Islamic land... Since this is the case, the Liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Moslem wherever he may be." (Article 13)
"The day the enemies usurp part of Moslem land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Moslem. In the face of the Jews' usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised." (Article 15) We should promote a resolution to cease terror. As a country that fought terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting American values, we should support our allies in their horrible war on terror. But if you are not willing to condemn terror, at least avoid making any resolution on the conflict.

Please keep Santa Clara an inclusive city that is safe to the Jewish community, focus on city business, and reject adding this resolution to the agenda.

Respectfully

My name is Revi Sagee. I am a concerned citizen of Santa Clara County and a community member.

I am against the introduction of a resolution on the Israel‐Hamas war.

Any resolution will NOT benefit innocent people who are suffering in the Middle East.

Any resolution
WILL cause further controversy and division in the local community.

In the city of Oakland, after passing a one sided resolution, a menorah was vandalized in a public place.

There are people whose job is to understand the fragile situation and make difficult decisions on the next steps to eliminate terror and protect innocent people. This complex matter should NOT be a subject for discussion by city members located thousands of miles away within one or two council meetings, but rather to those who invest in thorough research from reliable sources and understanding of the situation's complexity.

The City of Santa Clara should continue to focus on the many issues it confronts within the City, for which I am appreciative.

Nevertheless, if you must pass a resolution, I support a resolution that is NOT one‐sided and doesn't cause disagreement among the community.

I was extremely sorry to see an asj to place an agenda item to consider a resolution on the conflict in the middle east.

In the face of the Jews' usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised." (Article 15)

We should promote a resolution to cease terror.

Thank you,
Ori

Dear Mayor and City Council,

I respectfully request that you avoid revisiting the topic of a Gaza ceasefire. Santa Clara stands as a beacon of greatness, and I implore you to preserve this harmony for all residents by refraining from entanglement in foreign conflicts.

Let us not forget that there
was a ceasefire in place on October 6th. If Hamas were to release all hostages and lay down their weapons, there would be a permanent ceasefire.

Sincerely,
Yarden

Subject: Request to Focus on Local Issues and Refrain from Foreign Policy Debates/Statments Dear City Council Members, I hope this message find you well.

As concerned residents of our city, we are writing to express our collective perspective on the ongoing discussions related to foreign policy within the city council. While we deeply respect the responsibilities and roles of our city council, we believe that there might be limitations in having informed discussions and making decisions on complex foreign policy matters. The intricacies of global affairs often require a depth of understanding and access to information that may extend beyond the immediate scope of our local governance. As residents, we urge the city council to prioritize and dedicate its time and resources to addressing and resolving local issues that directly impact the well‐being and prosperity of our community. Local topics related to infrastructure, education, public safety, and the economic welfare of residents are areas where the city council's expertise and focus can make a significant positive impact. We understand that international events are of great concern, and we appreciate the city council's awareness of global issues. However, given the complexities and potential consequences of foreign policy decisions, we kindly request that the council refrains from engaging in debates/statements on international matters where the council may not have access to comprehensive and accurate information. Just as the city refrained from issuing statements on international incidents such as the events in Syria in 2018 or the situation involving the Yazidi and Armenian genocide, we encourage the city council to maintain a focus on local governance. By concentrating efforts on matters that directly affect the daily lives of our residents, the council can contribute substantially to the betterment of our community. We believe that addressing local concerns aligns with the council's mandate and ensures that our city remains a prosperous and harmonious place for all. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we appreciate your ongoing dedication to the well‐being of our city.

Sincerely,
Maybar Durst

Subject: Santa Clara Meeting tonight
Dear Mayor and City Council,

Please consider not bringing up again the topic of a ceasefire in Gaza.

The city of Santa Clara is a great city, keep it this way for all citizens and do not get involved in a conflict abroad.

Please remember that there was a ceasefire in place on October 6th, and if Hamas were to release all hostages and lay down their weapons,
there would be a permanent ceasefire.

Yours truly,
Hanna Barniv

Subject: Support a Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza Now!
Dear Santa Clara City Council Members,
My name is Luqman Saib, and I am a constituent living in Santa Clara. I am writing to urge you to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the city of Gaza.

The people of Gaza are facing a massive campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide by the apartheid state of Israel, with more than 20,000 Palestinians killed by Israeli bombardment of Gaza in the past two months. Nearly half of them were children. According to Catherine Russell, the executive director of UNICEF, more than 420 children are killed in the Gaza Strip every day.

Do not turn away and claim that Israel has the right to defend itself. The right to defend oneself is not equivalent to the right to kill 8,000 children in just two months. Nothing will ever justify genocide. I urge you to represent your constituents and to pass a resolution that calls for a permanent ceasefire, in the name of human rights and human dignity.

Sincerely,
Luqman Saib
