WHEREAS, Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus; it can cause severe pan and make it harder to get pregnant, and can create complications such as hemorrhage and uterine rupture; and
WHEREAS, Endometriosis is a condition that affects an estimate d 11 pe rcent of women in the United States between the ages of 15 and 44; a complex disease, it affects many women globally from the onset of their first period through menopause; and
WHEREAS, a common gynecological disease, the causes for the development of endometriosis are not currently underst ood and there is no cure for endometriosis, but tre atments are available for its symptoms; and
WHEREAS, starting in 1993, Endometriosis Awareness Week, which expanded to Endometriosis Awareness Month, serves as a time to raise awareness about the condition and treatment; and
WHEREAS, addressing endometriosis will empower those affected by supporting their right to the highest standard of sexual and repr oductive health, quality of life, and overall well- being.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LISA M. GILLMOR, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of March 2024 as
Endometriosis Awareness Month
in the City of Santa Clara and encourage people to work with their doctor to get the healthcare they need .
