I was Present and Treasurer of Pi Sigma Alpha at San Jose State University which Is the Political Science Honor Society. The San Jose State Chapter for Pi Sigma Alpha (Epsilon Iota Chapter), while I was President, won the Best Chapter Awerd for 2022-2023. Also, I was a member of hi Kappa Phi, an honor sociely that accepts the top 7.5% of Juniors in their class.

I desire to become a member of this Board of Library Trustees since I believe the City of Senta Clara is essed to have Iree librarles that are open to the public. 1 remember studying at Centrel Park Library with my friends for exams while attending Santa Clara High School. Back then we would get one of the study roams and go over our work and check each others' study guides, and always appreciated the city for prouding this public senice.
My objectives are that I would like to expand library senices to help students through AP classes and work more closely with the putlic schools in the area to make sure students can easily access assigned reading bocks.
Adationally, I would want to expand the manga section of the library, since currently, mangas are in high demand among young readers. It is imperative that students have all the necessary tools at their disposal to excel in their acadamic leaming, as well as have leisure reading.

Im a lifelong Santa Clara resident ond the library alvoys have had a special place in my heart. I'm a regular at Central Park Library and often walk there since it's close by my house. Growing up. I remember sesing its present form being but as i pass by and later i would have fond memories of it especially when I was at Santa Clara High since it was a close walk away. All that being said and done, I want it and all the other libraries to be the best ones ve deserve and for our future generations to have similar great experiences that I had along with how we can ensure they sene cur community as much as they can. I have some great ideas for specife objectives to do just that. Like for example, homeless people often frequent our libraries. So a specific objective that we should aim for is ensuring and improving our libraries" ability to provide the rescurce our homeless neighbors need to help them especially help them get off the streets and into safe and securing homes/housing Some other specific objectives for us (based on my experiences) with the libraries would be fully restoring cur hours and schieve that and there would be the other specic objective of hiring more full time stof and'er opening up more volunteer opportunities specifically for high school students who need the community senice hours to graduate. On the note of the latter, another specife objective would be prode more community senice opportunities for library patrons cutside the library and even outside Santa Clara particulady those involving (children's) literacy. Than there's promoting the library's bookstore and maybe retuming to the old prices of $1 for the white tag books and buy 3 get 1 free because now it's 52 for the white tag books and the deal/special is buy 3 tr $5. A last possible specific objective woud be making the most cut of cur libraries" spaces and ensuring a diverse range of nonprofits and organizations being able to rent out spaces for their meetings and events to expose our community to all sorts of worthy causes. Going back to the prior point of making the mast out of our libraries" spaces, there's the matter of the snack cafe in Central Library by the back/park doors that have been closed since the pandemic. I have fond memonies of hanging out there after schol with my triends in high school and it seemed like it helped raised money for the library by selling food with the added benefts of attracting and keeping people to in the library. A specific objective would be seeing to if we can reopen it or not, how would we reopen it, and if we cant reopen what to use that space for moving forward Any other information which you feel would be usoful to the City Council in reviewing your application:

During pre-pandemic times and as a student, I frequently visited the central library es a great place to study. It's central location and large park made it Ideal. Events like comic con are also extremely fun and engaging for the community. Would like to give back to the community and explore new ways to use this space for activities.

As a long time resident of the Cly of Santa Clara and a fervent achocate of libraries in general as well as a power user of the library and its matitude of serices, I am very interested in helping mold policies and procedures that maximize taxpayer resources to the largest beneft of our city's residents. I believe that it is indeed possible to provide primary library senices to the city and at the same time be part of an entity working towards the ideal city for its residents. Perhaps more specifically, a few of the objectives that I woud like to work towards are:
1. Advocate for funds so our libary can be open longer and throughout the weekend (I realize, we have three branches, but nearby cities like Sunnyvale and Mountain View have only one, but that should not deter us from this ideal.
2. Work hard towards fostering diversity, inclusion, accessibility, equity and anti-racism in Santa Clara. The library can play a key role to ensure that our materials refect not just the growing diversity of the city, but ensure that these ideals are wrapped up in the fabric of the daily work at the City of Santa Clara Library.
3. Find the ideal belance between in-person and online events. The pandemic has made it somewhat acceptable to opt for online events when an in-person event is possible. This has been to the expense of social interactions that provide the fodder for leaming how interact, listen and support each other.
4. Help create partnerships between the library and businesses that can augment taxpayer resources. This is not a newidea, but it is certainly worth pursuing with fenor. We are endowed with some very successtu businesses, both large and small and these should not be ignored.
After working for nearly 20+ years in a veriety of libraries, I understand that there are day-to-day issues that the board deals with: something goes wrong or something unexpected happens and our able librarians and their leadership would tend to it. But a representative from the city, as a librarian as well as a resident can bring in a valuable achisary perspective to the board.

I have a unique educational and work experience background. My graduate degrees in Business, Geography and Library Science coupled with my perspective of working in different kinds of libraries, my penchant for historic materials along with being digitally sawy can beneft my litrary's board and by extension, the residents of my city. That is also my reward - to contribute to the library in my city and to the institution of democracy wit large.
Never has the role of the public library in the adiancement of democracy been more vilel in US history and 1 would like to be considered for the privilege to sene and make a difference to my fellow citizens - of Santa Clara and indeed, my nation.
