COMMISSIONERS REPORT
Chair Hai:

Unfortunately he could not attend the 4th of July celebration. He visited Westwood Oaks park to see the final construction of the project.

Commissioner Chu:

She was happy to attend the 4th of July celebration and thought it was a great venue for the celebration. She believes there is a lot of things that could be learned from the event such as egress, direction of the fireworks for the audience, etc. She was informed that the Mission College Board of Trustees was happy to showcase the venue. It was a great partnership between Mission College and the City.

Commissioner De Marco:

He could not attend the 4th of July event due to prior commitments. He spoke a bit about his background. He has lived in California for almost 11 years after moving here from New Hampshire and Michigan. He works at UC Santa Cruz and has been involved in staff advocacy there for the better part of eight years. He looks forward to working with fellow commissioners and contributing to community advocacy.

Commissioner Forte:

He attended the summer concert on June 28 at Central Park and also attended the 4th of July event at Mission College. He stated "If your family had come after 7:30 PM, that would have been perfect. It was so comfortable."
It was a good venue for hosting the event. This was the first time having the 4th of July celebration including fireworks at Mission College, and with Great America. That was a good test run for future big events coming to the City of Santa Clara. He was sure to fill out his park and event QR code visitation form.

Commissioner Gupta:

He tried to convince his family to go to Mission College for the July 4th celebration. They did watch the fireworks, but from another location near Alviso, which was nice in some ways because they could see other Bay Area fireworks and caught a glimpse of the Sunnyvale drone show. He express his thanks to City staff for all they do, day in and day out. It means a lot to the aquatics community.

Commissioner Ricketts:

She attended the 4th of July event which she said was amazing. It was a great venue. She expressed thanks to staff. It was such an awesome event for so many people. Having the misting fans was great and so were the

food trucks. The most asked questions when she visited the info booth were: where are the food trucks and where to look for the fireworks. She would like to know how commissioners can help volunteer more for such events. She further stated "I definitely joined the Commission to take a more active role, especially in the bigger events that we have." Perhaps next year the Commission should have a Parks & Recreation Commission table where they share information about park locations, QR code for input on upcoming projects, and how to use the My Santa Clara app. This would allow for more face time with Santa Clarans and they would get to know the Commission and what we do to support parks and recreation.

Commissioner Chu made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Gupta to adjourn the Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting at 8:08 PM, until the next regular meeting on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 7:00 PM.
