11/2/2024
From: [email protected]
To: Mayor and Council
Subject: Agenda item 7 - 12 Nov 2024 Council meeting
Date: Tuesday, November 12, 2024 12:33:22 AM
As a Benton resident who frequently bikes and walks along Benton, I would like bike lanes along the full length of the street. I know that the stretch between Maryann & Lincoln is controversial, but traffic calming of any sort that actually will slow down traffic will require a rewrite of the 25-year-old Traffic Calming Policy (yes, it does need doing) or ignoring it. Personally, I'd be in favor of blocking off through traffic with bollards so it's local traffic and bikes (and other personal modes of transportation) only.
Removal of parking on both sides would be simpler, however, though it would require residents to clear out their garages and/or reduce the number of cars they have. It's important for people to realize that the street (and sidewalk) in front of their homes does not belong to them. It's city property, public property, and should be available to be used by everyone.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Diane Harrison
