WHEREAS, dedicated public works professionals are responsible for providing vital infrastructure, facilities and services that help create safe, sustainable resident bom monies, essionals are responsit WHEREAS, working together with various departments and the community, the Department of Public Works helps rebuild, protect, and improve our nation's transportation infrastructure, landscape maintenance, water and solid waste systems, parks and recreation spaces, power, emergency management anc first response, right-of-way management, and maintenance of public buildings, among other things; and WHEREAS, since 1960 the American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week (NPWW) to celebrate the important role that Public Works plays in planning, building, managing, and operating at the heart of local communities; and WHEREAS, the 2025 NPWW theme of "People, Purpose, Presence" highlights three cornerstone ideals that motivate public works professionals to serve their communities, working in the background to advance quality of life for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LISA M. GILLMOR, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of May 18-24, 2025 as
NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
in the City of Santa Clara and do hereby urge all citizens to recognize our public works staff for the substantial contributions they make to our city and community.
