Commendation City of Santa Clara
WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Waddell has served as the Superintendent of the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) since July 2022, focusing the district on a shared vision, mission, and core values in service of our community's students; and WHEREAS, Dr. Waddell previously served as Deputy Superintendent of the San Mateo County Office of Education, where he oversaw instructional services, assessment and accountability, early learning, STEAM, and environmental literacy, among other areas; and WHEREAS, Dr. Waddell also served as Associate Superintendent of the Santa Clara County Office of Education, where he led the Equity and Educational Progress Division, overseeing public affairs, media and communication, assessment and accountability, state and federal cational ones Division evenei WHEREAS, Dr. Waddell's career has been focused on closing achievement and opportunity gaps through programs of excellence and has been recognized with awards in the areas of human rights, leadership, and closing achievement and opportunity gaps; and WHEREAS, Dr. Waddell's collaborative leadership style has continually inspired SCUSD staff and the community to rally together to improve student well-being and academic achievement, especially for those who are traditionally underserved.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LISA M. GILLMOR, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the Santa Clara City Council, do hereby recognize and commend
DR. GARY WADDELL
on his retirement from the Santa Clara Unified School District and are deeply grateful for his dedicated service and expertise in guiding the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD), and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
