City of SantaClara
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clara, California, United States of America and the City of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan entered into a Sister City Relationship on October 11, 1986; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clara and the City of Izumo entered into a Sister City Relationship in order to promote the mutual understanding of the Santa Clara and Izumo communities, to establish friendship, and to promote peace through cultural, educational, and economic exchanges that benefit each community; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Sister Cities Association and International Exchange Association of Izumo are proud to be an integral part of this global network of sister city partnerships with Santa Clara and Izumo; and WHEREAS, the Santa Clara-Izumo Sister City relationship exemplifies the significant impact that the organization has made in building connections among our communities internationally and fostering relationships through our student exchanges; and WHEREAS, the Santa Clara-Izumo Sister City relationship celebrates the importance of the continued commitment to support cultural enrichment and a prosperous future through international exchanges which celebrate our cultures; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clara and the City of Izumo are proud to celebrate their 40th Anniversary of the Santa Clara-Izumo Sister City relationship this year in 2026;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LISA M. GILLMOR, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby recognize the City of Santa Clara, California, United States of America and the City of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan for the 40th Anniversary of the Santa Clara-Izumo Sister City Relationship and commend both cities for their dedication to the enhancement of exchange activities and cultural relationship between our two cities.
