SUBJECT: UNSCHEDULED VACANCY ON THE ARTS COMMISSION

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council:
1. Approve Councilmember Smyth’s nomination to fill one unexpired term of office on the Arts Commission.
2. Instruct the City Clerk to update the Local Appointments List and post a copy at all branches of the Santa Clarita Public Library and on the City’s website.
BACKGROUND
As a result of Vanessa Wilk’s recent resignation, one vacancy for an unexpired term ending December 31, 2024, exists on the Arts Commission. Ms. Wilk served as a valued member of the Arts Commission from January 2017 through her resignation on November 24, 2021.
Councilmember Smyth nominated Commissioner Wilk, and he is the nominating authority for the vacancy.
On December 6, 2021, a Special Notice of an Unscheduled Vacancy was posted at City Hall, all Santa Clarita Public Libraries, and on the City of Santa Clarita’s (City) website in compliance with Government Code section 54974 and City Council Resolution 91-194. Additionally, a notice was published in The Signal newspaper on December 8, 2021. Vacancy and application information was also made available on the City's website, through social media, and in the City Clerk's Office. The deadline for receipt of applications was Monday, January 3, 2022. Thereafter, the City Clerk caused the distribution of applications to the nominating authority and the entire City Council. A list of applicants is attached, and all applications are available in the reading file.

FISCAL IMPACT
The resources required to implement the recommended action are contained within the City of Santa Clarita's adopted FY 2021-22 budget.
