RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution reciting the fact of the General Municipal Election held on November 8, 2022, declaring the results and such other matters as provided by law.
BACKGROUND
By Resolution 22-47, adopted on June 28, 2022, the City Council called and gave notice of the November 8, 2022, General Municipal Election, which was held in consolidation with the Statewide General Election held in Los Angeles County for the purpose of electing three Members of the City Council for the full term of four years.
The Los Angeles County Election Planning Section conducts the canvass of all election returns and has verified that all ballots have been counted and accounted for. The Registrar-Recorder/ County Clerk certified the results and submitted the Official Canvass Certificate and the Official Statement of Votes Cast. The results are marked as Exhibit A to the attached resolution.
The canvass of this election verified that the number of registered voters in the City of Santa Clarita for this election was 145,251; the whole number of ballots cast in the precincts excluding vote by mail voter ballots was 18,235; the whole number of vote by mail voter ballots cast was 61,053, making a total of 79,288 ballots cast which results in a 54.59 percent turnout. By a majority vote, in order of votes received, Laurene Weste, Bill Miranda, and Marsha McLean have been elected as Members of the City Council, each for a four-year term of office.
The City Council is required by Elections Code 10263(b) to declare the results and to install the newly elected officers no later than the next regularly scheduled meeting following the presentation of the 28-day canvass of returns or at a special meeting called for this purpose.
