Pursuant to Government Code section 54954.3 members of the public are afforded three minutes (with double the time allotted to non-English speakers using a translator) to address the legislative body concerning any item that has been described in the special meeting agenda.

PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER FORMATION OF CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS Pursuant to the terms of a settlement agreement and consent decree entered into in the matter of Michael Cruz v. the City of Santa Clarita, the City of Santa Clarita is undertaking a process to establish City Council districts, from which future City Councilmembers will be elected. The City’s demographer, Douglas Johnson with National Demographics Corporation, will give a presentation on the legal requirements for Council districts, will describe a starting point map that was developed between the City and the Plaintiffs as required by the settlement and consent decree. Mr. Johnson will also demonstrate a mapping tool that the public can use to generate their own suggested district maps as well as describe other ways the public can submit proposed district maps. Finally, Mr. Johnson will review the schedule for deadlines to submit such maps, as well as the schedule for future Council hearings.
After the presentation, the public will have an opportunity to comment. At the conclusion of public comments, it is anticipated that the Council will continue this hearing to April 13, 2023.
