SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF ONE FORD F-350 SUPER DUTY TRUCK WITH
UTILITY BED

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council:
1. Approve the purchase of one 2023 Ford F-350 super duty truck from Auto Nation Ford Valencia for a total amount not to exceed $75,000.
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita (City) Parks division maintains 37 parks and over 80 miles of trails. In fall of 2021, the Canyon Country Community Center (Community Center) was completed, adding to the maintenance roster of the City’s Parks system. The Community Center offers high- quality amenities, including a 25,000 square-foot building with two basketball courts, a fully functional industrial kitchen, dance room, classrooms, and office spaces. The grounds include robust planter areas, an outdoor amphitheater, passive-use field areas, a playground and a Mercado plaza. With the addition of the Community Center, it was essential to add two permanent full-time staff members to perform the required site maintenance.
During the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget process, the City Council authorized the procurement of two utility trucks to support the Community Center personnel and the transportation of needed equipment to other park sites. One of the two approved trucks have been purchased. The second truck was delayed due to limited inventory and increased prices due to inflation. With inventory and pricing recently “improving;” an invitation to bid on this second truck was prepared and published on April 21, 2023, and was posted on the City's website. With no bids submitted to the City, staff reached out to Auto Nation Ford Valencia with vehicle specifications, in conformance
with the City’s purchasing procedures. Auto Nation Ford was able to provide a cost estimate for one 2023 Ford F-350 super-duty truck for a total amount of $75,000.
Staff performed a cost analysis and requested commercial list pricing for comparable vehicles from other sources. It has been determined that Auto Nation Ford Valencia offers the best value to the City through competitive pricing and quality service.

FISCAL IMPACT
Adequate funds are available in Parks Administration automotive equipment expenditure account 3677300-520103 to support the recommended action.
