RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the request to add a sign at the Veterans Historical Plaza.
BACKGROUND
Eagle Scout Ron-Paul Tamayo is requesting to install a sign at the Veterans Historical Plaza (Vets Plaza) containing a Quick Response (QR) Code that will connect visitors to a website he is creating. Visitors will be able to hear recorded interviews with local veterans from all of the conflicts since World War II. The sign would be located in near proximity to the Fallen Warriors Monument. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Mr. Tamayo will be responsible for all of the costs associated with the sign installation and the development of the website.
The three steps for improvements and modifications to be made at Vets Plaza must be reviewed by the Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial, Inc. (SCV Veterans) organization, the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission (Commission), and shared with the City Council for approval, as described in the City of Santa Clarita Veterans Historical Plaza Special Use Facility Policy.
The proposed sign and the overall project were shared with SCV Veterans for their review and feedback. This item was presented to the Commission at their meeting held on February 1, 2024.
The Commission supported the request to be presented to the City Council for approval.
