RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council:
1. Councilmembers Ayala and Gibbs nominate and Council approve regular appointments to the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission; Arts Commission; and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel for a full term of four years, ending December 31, 2028.
2. Mayor Miranda nominate and Council approve one unscheduled vacancy appointment to the Planning Commission for a partial term, ending December 31, 2026.
3. Direct the City Clerk to update and post the Local Appointments List, and designate all branches of the Santa Clarita Public Library to receive a copy of the list.
BACKGROUND
At the regular meeting of November 26, 2024, the City Council declared vacancies and directed the City Clerk to post and publish the Notice of Vacancy for two positions on each of the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) Commission; Arts Commission; and the Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel. Subsequently, and as a result of Patsy Ayala’s election to the District 1 seat of the Santa Clarita City Council, her resignation from the Planning Commission effective December 5, 2024, caused one unscheduled vacancy, with a term expiring December 31, 2026. The unscheduled vacancy was posted and published in the same manner as the regular vacancies.
The deadline for receipt of applications was December 19, 2024. The City Clerk submitted copies of the applications received to the City Council. A list of applicants is attached, and their applications are available in the reading file.
Nominations are now appropriate for approval by the entire City Council to fill the vacancies as follows:
Councilmember Ayala One regular term on the Arts Commission One regular term on the PRCS Commission
One regular term on the Planning Commission
One regular term on the Financial Accountability and Audit Panel
Councilmember Gibbs One regular term on the Arts Commission One regular term on the PRCS Commission
One regular term on the Planning Commission
One regular term on the Financial Accountability and Audit Panel
Mayor Miranda One unscheduled vacancy term on the Planning Commission
After appointment to said bodies, regular terms for the Arts Commission; Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission; Planning Commission; and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel will expire December 31, 2028, and the unscheduled vacancy term will expire December 31, 2026. It is anticipated each newly appointed member will be seated at the first meeting of their respective body.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no direct fiscal impact as a result of this item.
