CITY OF SANTA CLARITA

AGENDA REPORT

NEW BUSINESS
CITY MANAGER APPROVAL:

DATE: July 8, 2025
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF REQUEST FOR REMOVAL OF PLANNING

COMMISSIONER
DEPARTMENT: City Manager's Office
PRESENTER: Laurene Weste

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Based upon the June 24 request of Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste, discuss the removal of Planning Commissioner Denise Lite and take action as deemed appropriate.

BACKGROUND

At the regular City Council meeting on June 24, 2025, a request was made by Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste to place an item on the agenda to consider the removal of Planning Commissioner Denise Lite. Commissioner Lite was nominated by Mayor Pro Tem Weste and appointed by the City Council to the Planning Commission in September 2024.

Santa Clarita Municipal Code (SCMC) section 2.26.020 provides that Planning Commissioners are appointed by the City Council pursuant to the procedure and terms set forth by resolution of the City Council and that such Commissioners serve at the pleasure of the City Council. Santa Clarita Municipal Code section 2.06.010 provides that any Commissioner may be removed from office at any time, with or without cause, by a majority vote of the City Council.

If the City Council approves the removal of a Planning Commissioner, this would result in an unscheduled vacancy. Pursuant to the City Council’s adopted resolution 91-194, the City Clerk would then post a notice of vacancy and solicitation of applications for the position.

Resolution 91-194 and SCMC sections 2.26.020 and 2.06.010 are attached for the City Council’s reference.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION

Other action as determined by City Council.
