SUBJECT: UNSCHEDULED VACANCY ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council:
1. Approve Mayor Pro Tem Weste’s nomination to fill one unexpired term of office on the Planning Commission.
2. Instruct the City Clerk to update the Local Appointments List and post a copy at all branches of the Santa Clarita Public Library and on the City of Santa Clarita’s website.
BACKGROUND
As a result of Council action during the regular meeting of July 8, 2025, one unexpired term ending December 31, 2026, exists on the Planning Commission. Mayor Pro Tem Weste is the nominating authority for the vacancy.
Posting of the Unscheduled Vacancy began on July 10, 2025, at City Hall, all Santa Clarita Public Library branches, and on the City of Santa Clarita’s (City) website in compliance with Government Code section 54974 and City Council Resolution 91-194. Additionally, notices were published in The Signal newspaper. Vacancy and application information was also made available on the City's website, through press releases, and in the City Clerk's Office.
The deadline for receipt of applications was 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Thereafter, the City Clerk caused the distribution of 11 applications to the nominating authority and the entire City Council.
A list of applicants is attached, and all applications are available in the City Clerk’s Reading File.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as directed by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The resources required to implement the recommended action are available within the City of Santa Clarita's adopted Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget.
