BACKGROUND

The City of Santa Clarita (City) works with Los Angeles County (County) to increase resident awareness of resources to prevent substance abuse and adolescent substance use. In 2012, the City partnered with the County and local school districts to launch the Drug Free Youth in Santa Clarita Valley (DFY in SCV) campaign. DFY in SCV works to educate students on the dangers of drug use and promotes wellness for healthier, drug-free lives.

In June 2026, Supervisor Kathryn Barger's office awarded $29,943.58 in additional grant funds to the City to prepare a community-wide educational campaign regarding the dangers of fentanyl. The City's educational campaign will include print and digital advertising and a digital scavenger hunt to educate participants on identifying and avoiding fentanyl. Participants will be able to enter a raffle for prizes. The County will prepare a grant agreement for the City to enter into prior to disbursement of funds.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by the City Council.
