1.76 To Whom it May Concern,
I have served on the CPVAW since 2020 and would love to be considered for another term. I have worked to make my time served important and relevant and I would appreciate the chance to continue some of the projects I have been involved in and to collaborate with my fellow Commissioners. I represent a large community in Santa Cruz due to the nature of my work and I want to continue to have a voice on the Commission and help those who struggle with issues of domestic violence and sexual violence. The Commission has seen a large disruption due to COVID-19 and there has been a revolving cast of staff members assigned to help us. If I could continue to serve, it would help stabilize the Commission and keep us on task with our work plan laid out for 2023 and so on, because I am invested and involved already in the process. Thank you for your consideration.

During my time on the Commission, I helped design and implement public outreach targeted at bar and restaurant spaces in Santa Cruz. Posters were made with vital resources and phone numbers for local organizations to help those who need it. Additionally, coasters were printed to be used in these spaces to highlight consent, respect, and non-violence. There was also a poster and corresponding coasters with the ability to test for GHB and Ketamine, which are two common date rape drugs. The posters serve to inform that the coasters are available for free, to deter any would be druggists, and to raise awareness that people are alert and watching for someone to spike a drink. I would like to continue this project and keep on reaching out to our local businesses to provide resources for these ongoing threats to public safety.

I have also been involved in writing and producing a series of PSA’s designed to be aired on public TV and social media. These PSA’s tackle a range of topics dealing with men being allies, to the escalation of violence leading often to murder, to the need for people to report assault and the resources available if they do. There is a fourth PSA that addresses talking to your children about the things they may see on the internet and giving resources for parents, to make these talks easier. These PSA’s have taken a lot of time and energy and have enlisted the help of multiple volunteers in our community. People have been delighted to share their time and to help a worthy cause. I would like the chance to continue the Commission to properly broadcast these messages and to further outreach in our community.

I have also worked to maintain regular ties with our Community Partners, such as the Walnut Avenue Women and Family Center. I have stayed up to date with their calendar and offerings and have helped to amplify their offerings. I would like to continue to be a liaison with their organization and to report back to the CPVAW when appropriate.

There is more that I have done and I am excited to do with the CPVAW. I truly enjoy helping my amazing community and volunteering my time in service to others. I am also happy to meet in person at any point to make my case. Examples of the projects I mentioned can be seen on the CPVAW website at the City of Santa Cruz. Please consider keeping me on with my passion for this cause, my ideas for change, and my willingness to be involved to help others. Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider my appointment.

Warmly, Karen Madura

To whom it may concern,
My name is Bubb Rader and I’m applying to serve on the Downtown Commission. Here are some relevant reasons I feel I’m more than qualified... • Attended and received a BA from UCSC as a history student • Began working in Downtown Santa Cruz in 2006 and ran Pacific Wave as GM for 7 years until 2015
• Opened Berdels with my wife Dana Rader at 1233 Pacific Ave. In Downtown Santa Cruz in April of 2015. Berdels has doubled in size, grown a vibrant website and is alive and strong as we close 2021 and move into our 6th year of business. We will be opening our Westside location in early 2021. Through Berdels I have employed many high school and college students. We have supported local schools through donations and last year made our biggest contribution to the Santa Cruz High marching band where we purchased their 22ft travel trailer. We sponsor many young surfers as well as sponsored team riders.
• I lived in Downtown Santa Cruz from 2006 until 2009. Married Dana Rader in the backyard of our friend’s home on Bay and Laguna and then purchased our home on Westside of Santa Cruz in 2015 where we are now raising our 2 boys Leon and Lou.

Leon attends Natural Bridges pre-school and Lou lives the good life playing all day with the nanny.
• Opened Westcliff Wellness, now 3 Bros, on Fair Ave. with my wife Dana Rader and a team of 5 other founders.
• Helped my wife Dana Rader open Stripe retail in 2009 until she sold it in 2018. • Lived in Downtown Santa Cruz from 2006 until 2009
Beyond the bullet points I believe it is important I explain why I include my wife in many of my bullet points. Dana and I met while I worked Downtown at Pacific Wave and she was working Downtown at Toadal Fitness. Our first date was at Hulas on the very first night they were opened. It is easy to bullet point the combined 30 years we have professionally dedicated to Downtown Santa Cruz but it is a little harder to convey how truly connected it is to us. I understand this application is about my position on the Downtown Commission but to accurately show my connection I believe it is necessary to paint the entire picture. Downtown Santa Cruz is not just a place I have worked but it is an everyday essential fabric of my life and has been for a long time.

With the support of Council Person Renee Golder, former Mayor David Terrazas and my extensive Downtown Santa Cruz professional resume I believe I would be a strong addition to the Downtown Commission.

GEORGE Lithograph, Brisbane, CA 1987 – 1999
Director, Technology Development (and co-owner)
In 1989, George Lithograph had no digital production capabilities. By 1999, George was widely considered an innovative technology leader. The company grew sales from $11 million in 1988 to $60+ million in 1999, placing it within the printing industry's top 1% in annual sales. My technology restructuring efforts contributed to the outstanding valuation received when we sold the company in 1998.

I created technology strategy, implementation and infrastructure; negotiated capital equipment purchases, managed integration and training.

Registered the Internet domain name George.com in 1992 and fired-up servers for email, FTP and Web to accelerate business relationships, years before competitors.

Subject: Special Meeting_appointing Advisory Body members Dear Council,
If you happen to read this before the meeting, I would suggest one question to ask the applicants for the Parks & Rec Commission is whether they have read the Parks & Recreation Master Plan document.

Hopefully you have spent some time reviewing this important planning document, whether you are new to the Council or have served for a few years.  I just spent considerable time reading the plan and noting important points, including recommended actions to be taken up by the Commission.

Please make sure your appointees are knowledgeable and qualified.  This could mean re‐appointing Commissioners who are currently serving.

Thank you.

Judi Grunstra
