10.22.24 Agenda Item #20 New (and wowee higher) fees
Dear Council,
I think every citizen of Santa Cruz should take a hard look at Appendix B – Fully Burdened Hourly Rates for every city job position listed.
According to that WOWEE are city employees raking the
outrageous big bucks and no wonder the city has pension problems and I think we have found that elusive "SYSTEMIC FINACNIAL PROBLEM" at the core of why the city always runs out of money.
Maybe the City Manager is "worth it" $400/hour as he has engineered such huge increases in fees levied on the public to keep the ponzi scheme good times rolling for all city employees.
Of course for most of these fees, no public is voluntarily insisting on these services, things like inspections, etc, THEY ARE MANDATED BY THE CITY, and what city employees are paid does not necessarily reflect the value they perform as it is not a free market. The city is a monopoly of force coercively requiring payment, in this case to cover whatever they pay employees.
That a parking attendant gets paid like $100/hr in salary benefits, which is about the lowest pay in the city, is astounding. Janitors make $150????? I mentioned before how the city has hired 300 or so new employees over the last 10 years while the population of the city has stayed the same.
Nothing prevents you from continuing this practice of hiring and coercively insisting on payments unrelated to any free market price discovery to pay them except running out of money, and thus the doom loop of mandating more "services" (nobody actually asked for in many cases) be paid for, hiring at inflated prices, then jacking fees up by outrageous amounts as if the taxes people pay doesn't count at all.
20.167
I suppose phase 4 when it comes is asking for a credit card number if one dials 911.
I thin k you still have a spending problem, a cost control problem.
Just wondering, when was the last time anyone in the city got fired? Just for fun, how much did these consultants get paid to determine as they say "opportunities for new fees" and the like? It would not surprise me if that fee got included in to the new fee structure somehow, the fee for raising fees.
"It's good to be king"
Perhaps an analysis of bidding out more services to the private sector is in order in exchange for cutting city head count is in order. By private sector, I don't mean non-profits.
