WHEREAS, March 8`11 is International Women's Day, a global day for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women; and WHEREAS, the vision of the Women's March of Santa Maria Valley is to strive to protect all human rights; protect the safety and health of all people through non-violent means; work to unify the diverse peoples in the community; recognize the transformative changes are driven by grassroots actions and political activism; and
WHEREAS, supporters of the Women's March of Santa Maria will march in solidarity on March 6, 2022, to advocate for the rights of women, people of color, those who are disabled, immigrants, and LGBTQ people, and ensuring healthcare, education, and justice for all; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Women's March of Santa Maria Valley is to promote and celebrate the empowerment of all women in their communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALICE M. PATINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria, hereby recognize March 6, 2022, as:
"WOMEN'S MARCH OF SANTA MARIA VALLEY DAY'
in the City of Santa Maria, and encourage all residents and businesses to support the efforts of the Women's March of Santa Maria Valley.
