SUBJECT: PRESENTATION OF WATER AWARENESS POSTER CONTEST WINNERS RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council receive a staff presentation of the 11"' Annual Water Awareness Poster Contest Winners.
BACKGROUND:
Since 20101, the Utilities Department has sponsored an annual Water Awareness Poster Contest for third -grade students in the Santa Maria Bonita School District. Students compete by creating colorful posters symbolizing Water Awareness Month and explaining the importance of water conservation.
DISCUSSION:
Water Conservation Specialist Myra Ritchie will present the winners of this year's Water Awareness Poster Contest. Certificates and prizes will be awarded to participants for 1st 2nd, and 3rd Place, as well as Honorable Mention. Thereafter, winning posters will be displayed at City Hall, featured on the City website, social media, and highlighted in the Santa Maria Times and the Santa Maria Sun.
Fiscal Considerations
Costs associated with the annual contest are funded within the existing budget allocation for the current fiscal year.
Impact to the Community
The Water Awareness Poster Contest is an extension of the classroom experience where students learn about conservation and the importance of using water wisely. 1 MICHELLE RU
