All -America City
WHEREAS, CommUnify, part of the nationwide Community Action Network has made essential contributions to individuals and families across the United States by creating economic opportunities and strengthening communities; and
WHEREAS, CommUnify, formerly Community Action Commission, was incorporated in May 1967 as a private nonprofit organization devoted to creating opportunities for Santa Maria families to achieve economic stability as an essential aspect of enabling and enhancing a stronger and more resilient Santa Barbara County; and
WHEREAS, since its inception, CommUnify has continued to provide vital services for the most vulnerable members of the Santa Maria community, expand its programs, and add locations throughout Santa Barbara County to make assistance available to all residents who might need it; and
WHEREAS, CommUnify serves thousands of low-income residents of all ages offering prenatal services; high -quality childcare and preschool programs; medical, dental, and mental health screenings; parenting education workshops; mentoring and tutoring programs for teens; job - training programs; home -energy programs to reduce utility expenses; weatherization services; and programs to keep seniors safe in their homes; and
WHEREAS, CommUnify has improved countless lives and continues to work toward ending poverty in Santa Barbara County.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALICE M. PATINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria, hereby recognize the month of May 2022, as:
"COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH"
in the City of Santa Maria and congratulate CommUnify on its milestone 55"' anniversary and its contributions to the Santa Maria community.
