FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 16, 2022
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
TO: City Council
FROM: City Manager
Prepared by: Chief Deputy City Clerk
SUBJECT: BUSINESSES OF THE MONTH — AUGUST 2022
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Mayor and City Council present a certificate to the featured Businesses for August 2022 — cnagy wines and Santa Maria Tool, Inc.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce have partnered to highlight different businesses in the City through a Business of the Month Program. This Program gives recognition to businesses that have been in the community for a significant amount of time, and/or provide unique or significant contributions to the community. Not only does this give valuable exposure to these local businesses, but it also reminds the community of the unique, diverse, and long-standing businesses they are fortunate to have in Santa Maria.
The focus this year is on women -owned businesses and major manufacturers in the Santa Maria Valley. Using these two categories to filter businesses will allow the collaborators to highlight a targeted but diverse group of businesses. Each month, one business from each of these two categories will be recognized during one City Council Meeting of the month and announced in a press release and on social media distributed by the City and Chamber.
This month's women -owned business is cnagy wines, a woman -owned winemaking business. Santa Maria Tool, Inc. is the manufacturer of the month, a complete machine shop that rebuilds and repairs equipment for the farming, mining, manufacturing, and oilfield industries to name a few.
