SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2022
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council adopt a Resolution cancelling the regular City Council meeting scheduled on September 6, 2022.
BACKGROUND:
Section 2-1.01 of the Santa Maria Municipal Code sets the time, day, and place for holding City Council meetings to discuss items of City business. The City Council has the authority to cancel meetings due to lack of a quorum or lack of business items.
DISCUSSION:
While many cities go "dark" for a meeting or two during the summer months or holiday season, the Santa Maria City Council has always met on the first and third Tuesday of each month with no pre -determined scheduled breaks.
Due to the Labor Day weekend and the timing of the League of California Cities Conference, in which many Councilmembers and Department Directors participate, staff recommends that the City Council meeting for September 6th be cancelled and address any items that arise between now and then at the August 16, 2022, City Council meeting.
A noticed public hearing regarding Fiscal Year 2023-24 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) Program Funding Priorities was initially scheduled for the September 6th City Council meeting. However, it will be re -noticed and rescheduled to the September 20th City Council meeting. Additionally, CDBG participants have been notified and the public hearing date will be reflected in the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) which will be published on September 8th. Delaying this public hearing will not impact the CDBG required deadlines for the next funding cycle.
Fiscal Impact:
There is no foreseeable fiscal impact because of this agenda item.
Impact to the Community:
While the public will not have the ability to bring concerns to the City Council on September 6, 2022, due to the cancellation of the meeting, Councilmembers and staff remain available by email or telephone to address residents' concerns during the regular business hours prior to September 6th and thereafter.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA, CANCELLING THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2022
WHEREAS, the City Council meets on a regular schedule twice a month, on the first and third Tuesdays; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has the authority to cancel meetings when necessary; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that a lack of agenda items and the timing of the League of California Cities Conference, calls for the cancellation of the September 6, 2022, Council meeting and the continuation of the public hearing originally scheduled for that evening.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria that:
The September 6, 2022, City Council meeting is hereby cancelled.
The Chief Deputy City Clerk is hereby authorized to make minor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substantial conformance of the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the Chief Deputy City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
