SUBJECT: BUSINESSES OF THE MONTH — SEPTEMBER 2022
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Mayor and City Council present a certificate to the featured Businesses for September 2022 — Gina's Piece of Cake and Hans Duus Blacksmith.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce have partnered to highlight different businesses in the City through a Business of the Month Program. This Program gives recognition to businesses that have been in the community for a significant amount of time, and/or provide unique or significant contributions to the community. Not only does this give valuable exposure to these local businesses, but it also reminds the community of the unique, diverse, and long-standing businesses they are fortunate to have in Santa Maria.
This month's women -owned business is Gina's Piece of Cake located in the Town Center East and owned by Gina Martin and her family. They provide an array of quality, delicious, fresh baked goods for events of any size. The bakery was established 18 years ago and now employs 15 people.
Hans Duus Blacksmith, Inc., is a lighting fixture manufacturer and is being recognized as the manufacturer of the month. Owned by Hans Duus, the business employs three people. Currently located on Industrial Parkway, the business was established 40 years ago and provides light fixtures for hospitality projects, theme parks, public and private developments, and high -end residential customers.
