FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 4, 2022
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
TO: City Council
FROM: City Manager
Prepared by: Director of Community Development
SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION — "CODE ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION WEEK" RECOMMENDATION:
That the Mayor and City Council recognize October 3rd through 7th, 2022, as "Code Enforcement Appreciation Week" to honor and celebrate the role Code Enforcement has in the community.
BACKGROUND:
In September 2018, the California State Legislature designated the second week of October as Code Enforcement Appreciation Week. Since then, jurisdictions are encouraged to work with their local communities to approve a Proclamation honoring the efforts of Code Enforcement Teams throughout the State.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Santa Maria's Code Enforcement Division is currently made up of three Code Enforcement Officers and three Code Enforcement Technicians who work on a variety of issues including building, zoning, housing, environmental, and health and safety. The team strives to assist the City in neighborhood preservation through education, as well as promoting safety for both residents and businesses. Code Enforcement Officers have a highly visible role in the community as they serve and regularly interact with the public and a variety of Federal, State, County, and local officials. The positive and proactive role that the Code Enforcement Division plays in the City of Santa Maria should be recognized.
