GENERAL QUESTIONS:
Have you ever attended a meeting of the Commission/Committee/Board for to which you are applying? If so, how many?
no
What is your understanding of this City Commission/Committee/Board? The planning commission's role includes the creation of plans and regulations, the amendment of existing plans and regulations, and the implementation of projects through review and approval. The commission serves to assist the City Council in an advisory role for formal adoption of the proposed development plans in order to achieve implementation of the General plan. The commission must make good land use decisions with consideration of the long-term consequences associated with these short-term objectives in order to balance private property rights, community character, and environmental impact issues. Members of this commission are expected to diligently study the staffs reports and recommendations to prepare for the hearings in order to participate together as an informed body. Members must know that for every private project and city land use policy or program, they will need to clearly understand the whole of the project as well as the applicable rules and regulations, to most efficiently condition the project for the developer to achieve their project's objectives while elevating the health, safety, and welfare of the community of Santa Maria. Members must have advanced skill in governance as decision making is complex with layers of objectives that may be oppositional and require careful balancing.
Have you previously served, or do you currently serve, on a Santa Maria Commission or Committee? If yes, which one(s) and for what period of time?

Is there anything else you would like us to consider when reviewing your application? I am an experienced community leader who is recognized and respected throughout the entire Santa Maria Valley for my thoughtfulness and integrity. This is evidenced by my successful election and re- election to the Santa Maria Joint Union High School Board of Education for four successive terms. In the 2018 election, I received 21,230 (30.92%) votes. Last month in November 2022, I was a candidate for Santa Maria City Council District 4 election and received 2,668 (43%) votes. Is there anything else you would like us to consider when reviewing your application? I want to assist our City's Recs and Parks department in implementing and expanding our activities and events for our youth. If the youth is involved at a young age and kept busy, they most likely will stay out of trouble and in return we will keep our city safe.
