Subject: For Public Comment 4/4 city council meeting item 12 *** EXTERNAL EMAIL: Please use caution when opening links or attachments.*** My name is Jacob Lesner‐Buxton and I am the system change coordinator at the Independent Living Resource Center. For 9/12 years I have been honored to be a part of this great organization. I am here to ask you to earmark ILRC to receive any additional CDBG funding recommendations that ma y come into the city
Over the past 9 years, I have witnessed the impact of ILRC work in the Santa Maria community. When a fire broke out in an apartment complex with many code violations, ILRC assisted residents with disabilities to get meaningful relocation assistance from their landlords. Our st aff has provided ongoing training on Deaf culture and ASL to first responders in the city. Also, we provided voter education to over 70 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the past election.
Most of this impactful work was completed with a team of 2 or 3 part‐time staff mem bers. In recent years with assistance from the city and the CDBG program, our office has grown to have 3 full‐time staff members. In the coming months, we hope to hire more staff, which will lead to greater benefits for persons with disabilities in the city
