Proclamation
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Maria recognizes the importance of recreation and parks as an integral part of the community; and
WHEREAS, recreation and parks promote health and wellness, provide opportunities to spend time in nature, improving mental health, cognitive performance, and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, recreation and parks encourage physical activities by p roviding spaces for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming pools, and many other activities designed to promote active lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, recreation and park programming and education activities, such as out- of-school time programming, youth sports, and environmental education, are critical to childhood development; and
WHEREAS, recreation and parks increases a community’s economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ALICE M. PATINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria, hereby recognize July 2023 as:
“RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH”
in the City of Santa Maria and encourage residents and community members to partake in recreation and parks activities and enjoy the array of opportunities within the City’s parks, facilities, and recreation programs.
