BACKGROUND:

Under the direction of the City ’s Recreation and Parks Department, the project was designed by Bethel Engineering. The scope of work for Phase I includes the installation of all site utilities for the future Japanese Cultural Center and renovations to the Enos - Smith House.

Bidder Bid Amount
The J.F. Will Company, Inc. $390,004.70

A detailed tabulation of the bid received is attached (Attachment B). A signed proposal and bid bond forms are available for viewing in the office of the Chief Deputy City Clerk.

The J.F. Will Company, Inc., from Santa Maria , has performed and successfull y completed similar work for many cities throughout Southern California and on the Central 2 Coast. In addition, they have submitted references for their work history. City staff have checked the firm’s references and are comfortable with the ability of the contractor to perform the work successfully.

The recommended action is to award the bid to The J.F. Will Company, Inc., in the amount of $390,004.70.

Alternative(s)
The alternative to the recommended action would be to reject the bid and reissue a Notice Inviting Bids. However, in doing so, would cause a delay of the project and the Public Works Department would need to rebid the project.
