RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AN EMPLOYMENT
AGREEMENT FOR INTERIM CITY MANAGER SERVICES
WHEREAS, Jason Stilwell resigned from his position of City Manager on August 9, 2023, with the intent to retire effective September 22, 2023; and
WHEREAS, On August 15, 2023, the City Council held a Closed Session meeting to discuss recruiting a City Manager and determined to conduct an in-house recruitment for an Interim City Manager and a national recruitment for a permanent City Manager and created an ad hoc City Council Committee to conduct a recruitment process for Interim City Manager and return to the City Council with a recommendation; and
WHEREAS, On September 14, 2023 , the City Council held a Closed Session meeting to receive the recommendation of the ad hoc City Council Committee and announced out of Closed Session that the City Council unanimously selected an Interim City Manager and directed City Manager Stilwell to negotiate an Employment Agreement; and
WHEREAS, In September Recreation and Parks Director Alex Posada executed an Employment Agreement for Interim City Manager and that Agreement is now presented to the City Council for ratification and adoption; and
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
1. The City Council of the City of Santa Maria ratifies and approves an Employment Agreement with Alex Posada for Interim City Manager services effective September 23, 2023 , and authorizes the Mayor to sign and execute the Agreement; and
2. The Chief Deputy City Clerk is hereby authorized to make minor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substantial conformance of the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the Chief Deputy City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
