Present a Proclamation to recognize the 100 -Year Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Maria.
BACKGROUND:
The Kiwanis Club of Santa Maria (Kiwanis Club) was formed on May 18, 1923, as a service organization committed to the development and advancement of youth in the community. Through decades of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to see club goals come to fruition, club members are now celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Santa Maria chapter.
Since its inception, the Kiwanis Club has hosted benefit shows, dances, golf tournaments, pancake breakfasts, and supported numerous rodeo queen candidates, to raise funds for several projects, such as the Santa Maria Municipal Plunge pool and renovations to a building at Buena Vista Park for seniors. Most recently, the Kiwanis Club partnered with several community organizations to support the first all -inclusive playground in the community.
DISCUSSION:
Over the past 100 years, the Kiwanis Club sponsored hundreds of youth activity programs, ranging from sports leagues, scouting, literacy and education, and community service projects. Additionally, the Kiwanis Club works with local organizations, comprised of individuals of a variety of ages and abilities, to inspire and enrich the lives of today’s youth. The 100 -year anniversary of the Kiwanis Club would not have been possible without an active and robust tea m of club members, who serve as mentors and role models. Recognizing the Kiwanis Club’s 100 -year anniversary will promote greater awareness of its services and the value the club provides to the community.
